A 99-year-old man suffered a serious fall when a defective wheel assembly on his rollator walker gave way, causing him to fall backward onto a tile floor and strike his head against a wooden bench. With no witnesses to the incident, a photorealistic animated reconstruction was developed to establish both the mechanics of the failure and the nature of the resulting impact.
The reconstruction pipeline combined several industry-leading technologies: Xsens MVN Animate for motion capture, Autodesk Maya for asset creation, animation, and motion capture cleanup, MetaHuman Creator for a realistic human likeness, and Unreal Engine 5 for final rendering.
The animation played a significant role in settlement negotiations, and the case resolved in the plaintiff's favor prior to trial.
